What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda originates from India and Tibet; it is more than 5,000 years old. “Ayur” means life and “Veda” means knowledge. This holistic science is the knowledge of complete balance of body, mind and spirit. According to Ayurvedic tradition, health is the balance of doshas reflecting air, fire and earth/water. Illness or ‘dis-ease’ is an excess or deficiency of a specific dosha or element. All of the Aveda treatments and products are developed based on Ayurveda beliefs and traditions.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology of the feet and hands is a science based on the belief that the entire body is reflected on the feet and hands. There are zones and reflex areas that correspond to specific systems and organs of the body. The physical act of applying specific pressure to these points results in stress reduction and relaxation; and it is believed to open the energy flow to the associated organs.
What are Doshas?
Doshas are the 3 basic elements or constitutions making up the body, mind and spirit. Each of us consist of Air, Fire and Earth/Water or Vata, Pitta and Kapha. When your dosha is balanced you can attain optimal health and well-being.
Vata (Air)
is translated as the wind, or the moving force responsible for all the body’s activities and sensations connected with the nervous system. Vata is responsible for the movement of air in and out of the lungs, blood through the circulatory system and thoughts through the mind.
Pitta (Fire)
is the force associated with heat and change, responsible for metabolism, energy and digestive functions of the body. Fire governs our ability to digest thoughts and ideas then change them to decisions or actions.
Kaph
(Earth/Water) is the support and substance to the body. It structures everything from the individual cells to the musculo-skeletal frame and is responsible for keeping tissues and joints lubricated. Earth gives strength and stability.
